Full Job Description

Responsibilities
The Quantity Surveyor shall undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
  1. Provide guidance, technical oversight and professional advice to the project team on matters related toquantification and estimation of construction works;
  2. Prepare realistic and up-to-date construction estimates which are in line with the approved work plans andbudget;
  3. Review bidding documents /Request for Proposal/pre qualification documents on the basis of the Bank’sStandard Bidding Documents (SBD) and Standard Request for Proposals (SRFP), and the Borrower’s StandardDocuments, where applicable, other relevant professional standards;
  4. Review contractual claims, establish genuineness and ascertain their consistency with measured works andcontract terms;
  5. Review and verify guarantees and bonds for construction and rehabilitation works and advise the ProjectImplementation Team accordingly;
  6. Review the application of variations of contracts for construction and rehabilitation works and advise theProject Coordinator on matters related to genuineness and value for money;

  7. Participate in pre-site visit meeting(s), and verify project needs in line with bidding documents;
  8. Participate in pre-proposal meetings and negotiations;
  9. Conduct regular site visits to ongoing works to follow up on the quality of works and contract managementissues;
  10. Support the Project Team in the coordination of activities with other development partners, and;
  11. Perform any other duties that may be determined by the Project Coordinator and provide


Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields: Quantity Surveying or Building Economics or equivalentqualifications from a recognized Institution
  2. At least 3 years of cumulative experience
  3. Must have served as a Measurement/Quantity Surveyor
  4. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex concepts and communicate them effectively;
  5. Good communication and social skills along with demonstrated initiative, synthesis ability, personal dynamismand self-motivation;
  6. Fluency in spoken English and ability to write lucid reports and documents in English; working knowledge ofKiswahili is desirable, and;
  7. Experience in using internet-based applications and demonstrated computer skills, especially using and workingwith at least one quantity surveying software, and Microsoft office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MSPowerPoint and related applications
