Job Description
The Tanzanian Children’s Fund (TCF) works to eliminate poverty and improve the lives of marginalized children and families in the Oldeani area of northern Tanzania. With a budget of approximately $3 million USD, our goal is to ensure that all children and families in this region have the opportunity to lead healthy, secure, and fulfilling lives. Through four programmatic areas - a children’s home (Rift Valley Children’s Village - RVCV), a health clinic, educational partnerships with local schools, and an economic opportunity program - we endeavor to provide a community of 10,000 with all the tools, systems and opportunities they need to find a path out of generational poverty.
TCF is seeking a compassionate, organized, and adaptable problem-solver to join our team in Tanzania. This is a full-time contract position, responsible for both fostering a loving, safe, and supportive family environment for the children who live at RVCV as well as supporting and leading the adults overseeing their welfare. The Director of Child Welfare will be a member of the Leadership Team. Due to the spontaneous nature of child welfare, duties of this position may change from time to time during the period of employment.
Responsibilities of the Director of Child Welfare will include, but are not limited to:
Child Welfare Policies
Develop and implement child welfare policies and services that will address the social and emotional needs of the children who call RVCV home
onitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our welfare initiatives and adjust programs as necessary
Work with the Senior Leadership Team to evaluate the capacity and timing for in-take of new children
Staff Management
Manage the Social Work Team, including through daily check-ins
Oversee the team of House Mamas and Patrons to ensure each Children’s House is creating an optimal environment for the children living there
Government Relations
I collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, ensure RVCV maintains a positive and productive working relationship with the Social Welfare Office in Karatu
Serve as RVCV’s point of contact for the District Social Welfare Office
E sure compliance with Tanzanian legislation regarding child protection and welfare
Oversee the calendar of required family member visits by the Social Work team and ensure the visits happen in a timely manner
Ensure required reporting requirements are submitted to the appropriate Social Welfare Officers in Karatu
Oversee the living accommodations when older children are home visiting RVCV during school breaks or between employment opportunities, making sure all local policies are complied with
Child Care and Protection
Oversee RVCV children-related responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
Career counseling and launching
Post-secondary school selections
Utilization and scheduling of mental health support
Activities for children
Ensure safety and security of RVCV kids by discouraging inappropriate behaviors
Support and manage the relationship of young adults who have launched, ensuring they continue to feel supported and welcomed by RVCV

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, preference for a degree in Social Work
M nimum of 3 years experience in a similar role
Minimum commitment of 2 years required
Proficiency in English required, proficiency in Swahili preferred

About the position
The Senior Data Systems Associate will be a key role within the Artemis project, contributing to the efficient management and utilization of data for the development of AI-powered phenotyping tools. This position involves a range of tasks, including data organization, quality control, processing, and annotation, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of data management principles. He/She will work closely with the Data Systems Engineer and the broader AI/ML team to ensure the smooth flow of high-quality data, ultimately supporting the project's goal of accelerating crop improvement efforts and enhancing food security across Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
Key duties & responsibilities
Data Management
Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the project's data management strategy.Support the organization, integration, and governance of datasets from diverse sources, including field trials, image repositories, partner institutions, and digital platforms.Contribute to the development and maintenance of comprehensive data documentation, metadata standards, and data dictionaries to ensure long-term usability and reproducibility.Data Quality Control:
Design and implement robust data quality control procedures.Support data cleaning, validation, and verification tasks to ensure data accuracy and consistency. Identify and report data anomalies and inconsistencies.Data Processing and Preparation: Lead the design, development, and optimization of data processing pipelines for machine learning and analytical workflows.Manage data storage, transformation, and integration solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and interoperability.Guide efforts to convert data between different formats as needed.Data Annotation and Labeling Oversight:
Provide technical guidance for the annotation and labeling of images and structured data for supervised machine learning tasks.Collaborate with domain experts and model developers to define labeling schemas, annotation workflows, and quality assurance protocols.Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and processes to improve annotation efficiency and accuracy at scaleCapacity Building and Collaboration
Provide guidance to junior data staff and contributors involved in data collection, management, and processing activities.Develop training resources and lead capacity-building initiatives on data management best practices and tools for internal teams and external partners.Serve as a key liaison between data, research, and engineering teams to ensure coordinated and efficient data flows that support modeling, analytics, and decision-making.Represent the data function in strategic planning meetings, reporting processes, and donor communications.RequirementsMaster's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.3+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, or a related field.Familiarity with data quality control and data processing techniques.Experience with data annotation and labeling tools.Proficient programming skills in Python or other relevant languages.Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using coding.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Experience with agricultural and/or plant sciences.Knowledge of image processing and analysis techniques.Familiarity with metadata standards and best practices.Terms of employment
This position is a nationally recruited position based in Arusha, Tanzania. The initial contract will be for 1 year subject to a probation period of 3 months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
This position is graded at BG07, level, with a minimum basic salary of TZS 3,929,704 in a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
