The Msimbazi Basin Development Project, implemented by the government of Tanzania, aims to enhance flood resilience and integrated urban development in the economically significant and flood-prone Msimbazi river basin in Dar es Salaam. The project involves resettlement assistance for over 2,000 households, re-contouring the lower basin to increase hydraulic capacity, and creating flood detention plains for safer land use. Additionally, the project will relocate the existing BRT depot and raise and widen the Jangwani Bridge to reduce traffic interruptions. Various interventions such as reforestation, greening, riverbank protection, solid waste management, sediment traps, and river maintenance will be implemented for the sustainability of these investments.
The consultancy services required for this proposed project include designing modeling tools and monitoring protocols, implementing these tools, and providing technical analysis to support major construction activities. The consultant will also facilitate stakeholder dialogue and draft an Integrated Watershed Management Plan.
